A New Year

Well, it’s been a busy couple of weeks or so over the Christmas and New Year period. I always have lots of plans for things that I want to get done whilst I’m away from work, but generally, as we all know the best laid plans etc usually go astray at some point. As it turns out, my new year’s resolution was to show the world more of my photography – the photographs that I take for just me. I’ve always said I prefer taking photographs involving people – however, following spending a couple of days in the North East over the Christamas period and seeing some of Joe Cornish’s work (I had the pleasure of visiting his gallery) I thought that I’d revisit some of my landscape and architectural photograhy and put a few examples up for the world to see. After seeing Joe’s work close-up so to speak, it did re-ignite my love of good landscapes and whilst I don’t claim to be a landscape photogapher, it’s far more relaxed than shooting a wedding (though I love weddings so I wont be stopping wedding photography yet!)
I’ve also dug out some photographs taken on a short break in Devon almost a year ago! I’d forgotten I had the pictures and found them this evening.

Beach Folk

Beach Folk

This image was taken on Brauton Burrows in North Devon. After a balmy weekend (weather wise!) the weather started to turn and on the Monday it had all gone a little cold and foggy. It was just begging to be a black and white image, so here it is!

Croyde Bay - North Devon

Croyde Bay - North Devon

Croyde Bay is just around the coast from Braunton, infact in this picture you can see Braunton Burrows in the distance (top right of the photograph).

Middlesborough Transporter

Middlesborough Transporter

The first of my photographs from my trip to the North East. Middlesborough used to have a heavy ship building industry, though over the last 25 years or so, this has declined. One remaining feature of the Middlesborough skyline is it’s transporter which crosses the river Tees – ferrying people and cars across the river.

Fresh Mussels

Fresh Mussels

As I was only a few miles from Whitby, it seemed a shame not to visit it for the day. We stopped for a coffee in a little restaurant that served fresh seafood – and on the bar was sitting a display of fresh oysters on ice. I couldn’t resist grabbing a quick photo!

Whitby Bay

Whitby Bay

And the final image is my attempt at imitating Joe Cornish’s work. A quick picture of Whitby Bay!
