Black and White Photography

I’ve finally recieved the developed black and white film I shot over Christmas and New Year and I’ve fallen in love with it! I’d forgotten what using film was like and it was a slight pain to scan it…. but, ending up with an image that was 200MB was a bit of a shock – but hey ho! Anyway, the image below is one of the first scanned images. It was taken a couple of weeks ago when we had a cold snap and I’d walked from Bournville into Birmingham City Centre along the canal. Going through one of the tunnels I found a couple of clusters of icicles hanging from the railing so decided to photograph them using the light at the mouth of the tunnel to subtly backlight them. The result was the photograph below.

I love the way that there is a slight softness to the picture – at first I wasn’t sure, but after comparing two images, one digital and one shot on film and then scanned – there is a slight softness inherent in my processing of the film. Anyway, hope everyone enjoys the image! I’ll be posting some more later on today.
