I’m a great believer in supporting my local community – so it was a real pleasure to help the team behind the Stirchley Community Market by photographing the first community market in Stirchley.
The event itself was on Tuesday 27th July in Stirchley and was a great success. Lots of food businesses from the local area where there – including Tom from Loaf – a social enterprise whose aim is to promote real food and healthy living in Birmingham, and build community through food.
Being a people photographer, I try to capture emotion and expression in my photographs and for me the same should be true when photographing food. You should be able to almost taste and smell the food from it’s photograph. So, alongside photographing the event – I had a great opportunity to photograph the food for sale. When I shoot a wedding, most photographers forget about the food – but so often, the wedding breakfast also looks as great as the cake – so I make a point of trying to get a shot or two of the food as it leaves the kitchens.
It was great to meet so many local people at the event and see people coming out to support the local community. It’s important to me and my business to help groups such as Stirchley Community Market where I can because for me, being able to help by way of providing the photography is fundamental part of my business ethos.
Anyway, enough of the talk – lets show some of the photographs from the event!
